Theatre Arts 7th grade: This is a rigorous, performance-based class for 7th graders with a keen interest in singing, acting, and dance. 7th graders take the class for ONE semester. (For the other semester, they are enrolled in Industrial Technology.) Classes are devoted to developing and refining techniques in the three disciplines of singing, acting, and dance, and preparing for a class performance at the end of the semester. Beginners as well as those with stage experience are welcome and will be challenged. There are limited spots available for those interested in stage crew. Priority given to those who audition. This year's auditions are Wed. March 20th or April 3rd from 3:30-5:30.
Chorus: This is a challenging and fun class for those with a passion for singing and a desire to learn more about their voices. It is a year-long class for 7th and 8th graders. We study and perform 2, 3, and 4-part music in a variety of styles, including musical theatre, world music, jazz, and popular songs. Class curriculum also includes instruction in music theory and reading written musical notation. This class performs throughout the year at school and in the community, including a holiday performance at the Lobero with the Santa Barbara Choral Society and Symphony Orchestra.
Musical Theatre: This is a year-long class musical theatre class for 7th and 8th graders with a strong interest in performing. Students engage in dynamic instruction in vocal technique, dance, and acting. Class projects include "got Broadway" in the fall and a class musical in the spring. In 2018-19, this class was merged with Chorus.
Theatre 8th grade: This is a year-long class for serious performers with stage experience. The class puts on one class show each semester. Attention is given to further developing vocal technique, building characters through scene work, and gaining skills in dance (mainly Broadway jazz). This class is meant to build on the curriculum taught in 7th grade Theatre, though new students are welcome. There are limited spots available for those interested in stage crew.
Many Theatre and Chorus students are involved in the All-School Musical
as either cast or crew, but it is not required.
